Derek (@ProtonDecay) is organizing a 10-day trailer camping trip to Northern California, and he has graciously extended an invite to the Overland EastBay crew! Join for the full trip or just a part of it. If you love the NorCal redwoods and camping by the water, this is a fantastic opportunity.
This is primarily a trailer-friendly trip, but all are welcome.
Note: As we get closer to the date, we may organize a convoy just for the weekend. Let's discuss this at our Monthly Meetup in April.

Dates
Saturday, May 2 – Tuesday, May 12, 2026
Feel free to join for all or part of the trip!
Locations
The trip will be split between two beautiful locations: Usal Beach and the Klamath River.
Usal Beach Campground
We will be camping at Usal Beach. Note: Accessibility may depend on weather and road conditions.
Update: If Usal is not open we'll be scrambling to find somewhere to stay on Saturday, 2-May, so we might have to delay the start until 3 or 4 May so we can maybe fit into Westport-Union, or we may also look to find a spot to camp about halfway to Klamath that can hold us.
Location: Usal Beach Campground
Coordinates: 39°49'54.2"N 123°50'55.1"W (39.831722, -123.848639)
Get DirectionsKlamath River
We will also be camping along the Klamath River. Either way, we'll spend the majority of the next week at Klamath, using it as a base for hikes and sights in that area.
We'll stay on the river east of town, lots of room and the people are very welcoming. Plenty of room on a 4-6 inch river rock bar, unless we get late spring rain, but even then there's room up a bit.
Tons of activities:
- Fern Canyon
- Newton B Drury Redwood Scenic Parkway hikes (lots)
- Klamath overlook
- Ladybird Johnson Grove
- Grove of Titans
- North Fork of the Smith (secret spot, alas, not big enough for us all at once)
- Even a further camp to the north if we have a couple of folks looking to explore (will require chainsaws and probably winches), but allegedly beautiful on a gravel bar.
- Secret WWII military installation
- Blue Creek Ah Pah
- Sue-meg State Park
- More...
Note: We will likely meet up at these coordinates and caravan into the actual campsite, which we will scout out that day. If you arrive late, please contact Derek (@ProtonDecay) to coordinate your "pick-up".
